Saving video file to computer?

09 Jun

Okay, bear with me, this has been a long ordeal.

First, I recorded a video on a digital camera.
Then, I recorded the video from the digital camera onto cassette using the “dubbing” feature on my DVD/VCR
Next, I recorded the video from the cassette to a blank “Office Depot DVD-RW 4x 4.7GB” disk.
I was hoping to then save that video onto my computer however…
When I go to “My computer” then “disk drive” it never acknowledges that there is anything on the disk at all.
I do know that the video itself is on that disk bc it will play when I put it in a dvd player, for some reason, my computer just acts as though it’s a blank cd when I put it in.

Help please?

How to install window screen for my single hung window?

09 Jun

Ok, I bought this roll of window screen from Home Depot but I had no idea how to fix it on my window, which is a really crappy, old-school single hung window. It has no railing whatsoever. I do not intend to get a frame and what not – I’m a college dude who’s staying here for just one year, so any sort of ghetto repair would suffice, as long as I have some window screen splashed across my window.
the picture of my window:

Problem 1: I’m on third floor, so I can go outside and nail that thing across the window….

Problem 2: That’s as much my window would open, which makes it difficult to nail/tape the screen to the window frame….

http://i31.tinypic.com/xqbc68.jpg

Problem3: if I stick the screen to the outward side of the window, there’d be this big gap between the screen and the window, which makes the whole thing uneffective….

what should I do???
I hate flies and weird insects, so please help !!
thanks

Is it My roof or the Roof guy?

09 Jun

Hi. I own a house in Los Angeles. My house is 640sq ft. I have two small leaks in the bathroom (size of a nickel), and small two leaks in the kitchen (same size). This same guy has come 3 times! My insurance company paid him twice; the third time, he came to fix what he did not do the second time (he was here a week ago). My rook is leaking – again from the recent rain – from the SAME spots. He puts some patches on it, but it is not working. My roof is sloped, but the leaks are from the flat areas on my roof. Is it my roof, or the roof guy?! I am thinking, my kitchen and bathroom are not big; how could he miss it? Should I go to Home Depot and repair it myself? Thank you.
Thanks guys for your answers. *smile* I do not know if my insurance company knows what they are paying for; they just want the problem fixed. This SAME guy has told me that it will NEVER leak again. He has repaired roofs – he says – for 24 years! I believe him, but I am not sure he is honest. I will call my insurance company again. I was hoping for a temporary fix that would last for a few years before I decided on a new roof. My roof is not in bad shape. Just those areas where there is not shingles, and is flat is where it is leaking. Any other suggestions would be MOST helpful in the interim before I decide on a new roof. Thank you. :)

I would like to know somthing about electrical system in an RV?

09 Jun

I had the ac/dc converter burn up on the AC side, the DC side is still working. we live in the rv full time at one permanant address, so im wondering if there would be a problem with eliminating that converter and just installing a regular breaker box and re-wiring the rv so that it would be the same setup as a normal house. the parts that would be needed could be obtained at a place like home depot-vs- spending over $500.00 at an rv dealer. what do you think????

What kind of rope or bungee could I use for my slip n slide to slingshot innertubes down the slide?

09 Jun

My friends and I made a slip n slide for Memorial Day tomorrow in the back yard. We need to find something that can be obtained from a home depot or other local retail store to launch the inner tubes down the slide. Is this a realistic project? What would you use? We were thinking of using a tow rope for an inner tube that you would use w/ a boat.

Thanks in advance!

Do you know of alternative to dealing with Home Depot in getting estimates? e.g.replacing windows/doors?

08 Jun

They are the absolute pitts. Pet peeves:they insist on leaving a message on your home phone and contacting you there when you tell them you cell phone number & work number and emphasize that you work. Usually one is bounced back to the operator 3 times when calling the store. Even when one is in store.. no clerks available to help.. What bliss it would be to have Hechingers back! or any other stroe to give them some competition.. guess they feel secure in having a monopoly in Annapolis.. but I am ready to go the extra miles to Lowe’s. Not sure what happened but morale of workers is not good and it affects the customer.

Recycling (How would you accommodate this problem statement?)?

08 Jun

How would you accommodate this problem statement?

Home Depot wants to implement an automated CFL (compact fluorescent lamp) recycling system, which not requiring employee assistance in every transaction, this system must accommodate 200 medium base CFL’s and offer the customer a reward for their effort.

What is a roof pan, metal, plastic coating?

08 Jun

I’ve heard of roof pans being used for solar panel installation, tubs for irrigation. The one I saw was called a “roof pan” by an individual. It was made of metal with a plastic coating on the inside. I’ve searched around the internet, home depot, lowes, and nobody has anything called a “roof pan”. Is there another name for what I’m speaking of?

Can I get an antique car key cut at Home Depot or Lowe’s?

08 Jun

I have a 1957 Oldsmobile 98 and I need to get my ONLY remaining key duplicated.

My question is, can I walk in there with my key blanks (I have 4, 2 for the ignition, 2 for the doors/trunk) and will they be able to cut it for me? I mean like an actual working key, because if my remaining blanks get screwed up I can’t get more.

Cons: Which lie was easier for you to forget: That Osama had a secret fortress? or that Saddam had WMDs?

08 Jun

“The story probably reached its high point on NBC’s Meet The Press on December 2nd when Tim Russert, the host of the program, provided Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld with the artist’s rendering of bin Laden’s fortress. The interview proceeded:

Russert: The Times of London did a graphic, which I want to put on the screen for you and our viewers. This is it. This is a fortress. This is a very much a complex, multi-tiered, bedrooms and offices on the top, as you can see, secret exits on the side and on the bottom, cut deep to avoid thermal detection so when our planes fly to try to determine if any human beings are in there, it’s built so deeply down and embedded in the mountain and the rock it’s hard to detect. And over here, valleys guarded, as you can see, by some Taliban soldiers. A ventilation system to allow people to breathe and to carry on. An arms and ammunition depot. And you can see here the exits leading into it and the entrances large enough to drive trucks and cars and even tanks. And it’s own hydroelectric power to help keep lights on, even computer systems and telephone systems. It’s a very sophisticated operation.

Rumsfeld: Oh, you bet. This is serious business. And there’s not one of those. There are many of those. And they have been used very effectively. And I might add, Afghanistan is not the only country that has gone underground. Any number of countries have gone underground. The tunneling equipment that exists today is very powerful. It’s dual use. It’s available across the globe. And people have recognized the advantages of using underground protection for themselves.”

http://www.edwardjayepstein.com/nether_fictoid3.htm

(((Cody The Conservative))): How do you know that you “Never heard of the secret fortress thing”.

Isn’t it possible that you just forgot it completely?

Do we need to start chopping away at large corporations to make room for small business?

08 Jun

There is definitely a problem in the USA… Our mega-conglomerate corporations are becoming terribly slow, terribly expensive and resorting to constant begging in congress for “bail-outs” and “tax breaks” in spite of record sales (in some cases).

Here in my city, there are no personal courier services left and business people must stand in long lines at FedEx-Kinko’s.
There are no genuine farmer’s markets and everyone buys rancid food at Wal-Mart superstores (or pays 3 times the price to shop at Whole Foods).
There are no independently owned bookstores (except the very biased selections in some mega-churches) and everyone is slapped in the face at Border’s and Barnes & Noble by the latest tripe from Ann Coulter or Al Franken.
The Pizza Chains have barred their delivery drivers from going to neighborhoods “in economically depressed areas for insurance reasons”.
Every time a family-owned restaurant closes its doors, an unhealthy fast food joint pops up in its place.
Furthermore, you must depend on Home Depot to remodel your house (so it ends up looking the same crappy way that everyone elses looks) And I’ve heard that you can’t even find a good independent contractor to install a kitchen sink because there’s so much red tape and fines involved.

What should be done about these corporate giants that are slowly degrading our quality of life?
