Get a book, read it and take your time. It is not that hard if you take your time.

If you rush, you will end up with a sub-standard results. This is finish work and this is always time consuming.

EACH of the stores that you mentioned has a special seminar (usually on Saturdays) that will not only provide you with a handout on how to install the Wood Flooring as a DIY Project — but also take you step by step through the process in the classroom too.

Now … as far as this Empty-Nesting (Female) Single Retiree goes ..

YES, I DID install my own Hardwood Flooring (And I also did some Parquet Wood Flooring too) … did it MY SELF — and the most time I spent was to remove the old wall-to-wall carpeting, prep the Surface for the installation (believe me — what contractors leave behind beneath the Carpeting is DISGUSTING — a HUGE MESS) … and to GRID out the Room that I was installing the flooring in (and I wanted to grid it to make sure that I SQUARED up the room for sure BEFORE I started installation — I even marked the grid lines on the surface before installation to ‘anchor’ the grid).

IT took a bit of time — and you will most likely spend a weekend doing this (first day — removal of old material — cleanup the surface, and gridding it out).

REMEMBER — the more prep you have in gridding and prepping the surface properly means for a quality end product — and my Bedrooms do look GREAT!

Typically the product come with instructions.
Usually both stores have “seminars” on the weekends showing the step by step. You have to keep your eyes open when the particular venue is scheduled.

Anything is easy, if you know what your doing, even brain surgery.
It’s a nice home working job for you but, I would take the course from Home depot in this matter. There’s a lot to know here and, you don’t want to screw it up.

its not really that hard to install you will need various tools an saws there are many diferent types just go to your local hardware store an tell them what you want to do . they will tell you what type you should use an basics on how to install it . all your kits come with instructions on how to, just follow instructions an you will do a good job

it’s real easy to do but i do highly recommend that you put down a paint on moister barrier and the roll out kind. better to have to much moister barrier than to ruin your Flore

First, I need to talk to you regarding my question that you just answered but you have no email.
Second, in regards to your question. I have experience in installing and remodeling. I have a couple of suggestions. If you have no experience but you and your husband are sensible and good at handiness then I would read a flooring book from lowes or home depot or any store that sells them and I would give it a go. This could be a great learning experience for you two and once you complete it, you just did it yourself which is a great feeling. BUT, if you are not handy at all and are not good at repairng things AND you do not have time to put toward this floor AND you do not, absolutely DO NOT want to mess it up, get some one to do it. Flooring doesnt take very long if you know what you are doing but can be a real pain if you dont. Since you have friends that already did this, I would go to them for suggestions. I actually put the laminate flooring down in my home which was not too difficult. But I had my dad’s help and he is a jack of all trades with significant experience. Remember that wood floors will expand and contract so space needs to be left against the wall. LIke I said, if you have the time and want to learn this, talk to your neighbors, get a book and read, and go for it. Nothing like doing it yourself.

I have done four rooms plus hallway in my house and am very happy with it. Not a hard job at all, just get everything very clean before starting. Probably a good idea to take the seminar at Home Depot or Lowes as you will learn the tricks before actually starting the job.

Aside from the other wisdom offered, consider this.
Lowes & Home depot carry name brands of flooring, however
They have been known to have a special “line” of flooring & other things made to their specs which are not as tight as the Mfrs.
If the “name” mfrs want to sell at the volume these stores do
they have to play ball & come up with a product that can be discounted.
Might see if you can find the same flooring (name/model /style #) at a builders supply store.
    I was not able to.
If you can , might as well go w/ best price.
You can still go to the seminars as mentioned.
    Best regards
