I work at a hotel and about thirty of the 166 rooms have terrazzo tile from the 1950’s.
We’ve attempted twice to restore the luster of the floor by hiring professionals to restore the tile and the tile looks exactly the same afterwords.
Fast forward to me buying my little apartment in Puerto Rico (about 100 miles from where I work.) I pulled up the loose ceramic floor tile and underneath found the original terrazzo.
They are only 12 by 12 pieces, but its the original floor of this 1920’s historic building.
I would love to hire a professional to restore it, but a) I can’t find anyone, and b) once bitten twice shy
My choices are
1) Tile over it (don’t want to do)
2) Leave it looking unmaintained (don’t want to do)
3) Repair it myself (don’t want to do, but seems I might have to)
How do I repair it myself?
It’s a second floor apartment, only 400 sq ft.
Please give detailed instructions if you know. We have Home Depot in PR
I’ve pulled up the tile already and it is in surprisingly good condition, (the tile above it was installed badly and little mortar was used).
I just need to get it to shine now.
